Required materials
A complete overview of the materials I used for this course can be found above under the “Materials” tab.
During the Brushlettering: Basic course, I use the same set of brush pens in each module, along with special paper suitable for brushlettering. To participate in the course, it's helpful if you have these materials or similar.
The course also includes several PDF practice sheets that you can download and print (at home). The practice sheets with pre-printed lines are especially helpful for printing repeatedly. If you have a printer, be sure to use the correct printer paper. Regular printer paper is not suitable for practicing brushlettering; it's too rough and therefore bad for the brush tip. Examples of suitable paper for printing practice sheets include Ricoh Pro Graphic, Pro-Design, HP Color Laser and Clairefontaine DCP.
Basic materials
- Pentel Sign brush pen(s) in various colours - small brush tip
- Edding 1340 brush pen(s) in various colours - medium brush tip
- Ecoline brush pen(s) in various colours - medium/large brush tip
- An HB (mechanical) pencil with an eraser
- A pack or pad of smooth (Bristol) A5 paper (>200gsm)
- Paper for printing the PDF practice sheets
Don't feel obligated to use the same brand and/or colour of brush pens. In the course, I mainly use black and gray.
